Meet Dr. de Jesus
Joseph Y. de Jesus, DDS, MS
Welcome to my practice! We strive to create and maintain a comfortable and fun atmosphere, and to provide our services in a welcoming and professional manner. Service to our clients is our top priority!
Education
I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Biology from Occidental College. Afterward, I entered dental school and received my Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). I then pursued additional training in cosmetic dentistry and TMD diagnosis and treatment from the Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at UCSF.
I entered the U.S. Air Force in 1995. Serving for three years as a Captain and dentist at McChord Air Force Base, I was awarded a full Air Force scholarship for specialty training in orthodontics. I completed my orthodontic residency and earned my master's degree at the University of the Pacific. I continued practicing orthodontics in the Air Force, and separated after eight years of active service to return to the South Sound community.
Continuing education
I attend many dental and orthodontic courses every year to update our treatment protocols based on the best research and expertise. This enables my staff and I to provide optimized options to our patients to ensure they are receiving the most efficient and individualized orthodontic care available.
As a part of my continuing education, I also am an active member of the following professional organizations:
- American Dental Association
- American Association of Orthodontists
- Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists
- Washington State Dental Association
- Thurston Mason County Dental Society (2010 Vice President/2011 President)
- Puget Sound Orthodontic Study Club
In the office
For me, orthodontics is the perfect mix of providing personal care for patients and utilizing my technical dexterity. I get great gratification from creating beautiful, healthy smiles and improved self-image for our patients!
When I see someone I've treated at the mall, at a local sports event, or even at our Tumwater Rotary Lake Fair corndog booth, and the person smiles and greets me by name, it always makes my day! The recognition for our office's care, resulting in a beautiful smile, provides me with an appreciation for my ability to help others.
Family and community
I live on the border of Tumwater and Olympia, only two miles from the practice. My beautiful wife, Mary, and I have three energetic children, ages fourteen, ten and seven. We also have a tiny turtle, Scooter, who is 25 years old!
In my spare time, I'm usually driving my two daughters to or from ballet, tap or jazz, and my son to Tae Kwon Do. I also enjoy cooking, gardening when it isn't raining, snorkeling, surfing and skiing.
Our practice is proud to be a part of Tumwater and the greater Thurston County area. We gratefully provide charitable contributions to organizations in our area, including many local high school activities, Tumwater Rotary, Hands on Childrens' Museum, dental supplies for the YWCA, and the Walk For Life campaigns in Thurston and Mason Counties.
